  • Featured Father – Kirk Stafford

Kirk Stafford – father of two – and Brittany, his wife, have been using the SitterTree app for the past 7 months.

“SitterTree has given my wife and I the opportunity to go to last-minute concerts, Braves games, or date nights without having to plan weeks in advance, all while feeling 100% comfortable and secure with each sitter we meet.”

As restrictions lift, nothing goes better with a night out than a trusted sitter. With two kids, a dog, and a growing business, Kirk doesn’t have time to text multiple neighbors to find a sitter.

He and Brittany wanted the fastest, easiest path to cut loose at concerts, where they were recently spotted at Chastain- Bon Iver, breweries, or bonding and relaxing in the backyard of fellow SitterTree members (shameless plug), Chris and Emily LeCraw!.

This Dad goes to SitterTree for child care to keep the good times rolling. Thank you Kirk for being our June Featured Father!

We asked Kirk four quick questions:

  • Can’t Miss Summer Concerts Near You

    Photo Cred: DailyHive.com

When the world shut down in 2020, it brought concerts to a screeching multi-years-long stop. And I was heartbroken.

In December 2019, I purchased a pair of tickets to take my mom to see Reba McEntire – a bucket list item for both of us – for a summer concert in 2020. It got postponed several times until we started to believe it would never happen. But it did! My mom and I finally got to hear Reba sing “Fancy” with a few thousand other folks in Atlanta in January 2022, and it was everything we dreamed it would be.

All this to say – concerts are back, and they are headed your way!

There are a ton of summer concerts near you. The heartbreak this summer will be narrowing down which ones to attend!

Peruse this list to have a better idea about the upcoming summer concerts near you so you can plan accordingly for tickets, travel, and child care

Check Out These Amazing Summer Concerts Near You

With artists trying to recoup their lost ticket sales due to COVID cancellations, there are a ton of concerts to choose from, with Atlanta and Charlotte both being tour stops for several major recording artists.

After being in your homes and babysitting your kiddos, we know that our parents’ music taste is varied. Some of parents still listen to music from their high school days (Bye Bye Bye) while others are all about new country. Some like to dance to something pop-y while cleaning the house and others like to relax with a glass of wine while listening to something mellow.

As a result, we’ve compiled a list of the must-see summer concerts near you representing a variety of music, budgets, and venue types.

Note – Several of these recording artists will be touring in Atlanta and Charlotte, so you can travel to another tour stop if you can’t make it to the summer concert near you.

  • Summer Camps in Atlanta

Editor’s note: Post updated for 2023

Atlanta Summer Camps for Elementary Students

Summer is right around the corner, which means it’s time to find ways to keep your kids occupied for several weeks in a row. I discovered the joys of summer camps in Atlanta for elementary students after my son’s first summer break. That summer was a hot mess. My son thrives with a routine and in the classroom-and our summer looked more like chaos.

The following year, summer camps saved the day-and my sanity! My son got to try new activities and spend time enjoying hobbies he already loved, and I got a break from mom-managing.

The good news is there are countless summer camps in Atlanta for elementary students. Since it’d be impossible to list them all, we’re highlighting some of our favorite options for kids 5-10 years old. Below you can find a list of options for different interests, areas of town, and budgets.

Fine Arts Camps in Atlanta for Elementary Students

Fine arts camps include everything from art to dance to music to theatre. There are several excellent fine arts camps for elementary-aged students. Here are some popular options.

    • Atlanta Ballet Centre: Offers a summer day program at multiple locations for elementary-aged children. They offer a variety of classes depending on age and different lengths (once a week, daily for three weeks, etc.).
    • Forefront Arts Camp: Offers a variety of drama, dance, music, steam, film, and princess camps at locations throughout Metro Atlanta for elementary-aged kids.
    • Creative Play Camp at Alliance Theatre: Alliance Theatre offers several different camps based on age and class type. They offer creative dramatics, musical theatre, and acting basics for kids in grades K-5.

Outdoor Exploration Camps in Atlanta for Elementary Students

If you don’t want your kid to be stuck indoors staring at screens and becoming a couch potato this summer, consider one of these outdoor exploration camps. These camps include opportunities for kids to get up close and personal with nature and wildlife.

    • Zoo Atlanta: Zoo Atlanta’s Safari Camp: Summer Session offers full-day camps for kids 5 – 14 years old. They also offer scholarships.
    • Blue Heron Nature Preserve: Offers summer camps for kids 4 – 12 years old. The camp allows kids to discover the outdoors through sensory exploration and play.

STEM Camps in Atlanta for Elementary Students

Do your kids love STEM (science, tech, engineering, and math) activities? Are you looking for a way to get your kids to use their brains this summer? Check out these STEM-themed camps.

    • Club SciKidz: Offers a variety of different STEM-themed camps, such as Minecraft, chemistry, and robot engineering, for elementary-aged kids at several locations in the Metro Atlanta area.
    • SUMMER P.E.A.K.S: CEISMC Summer P.E.A.K.S. (Programs for Enrichment and Accelerated Knowledge in STEAM) are one-week-long experiences designed to increase Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) knowledge through various educational activities. Summer P.E.A.K.S. gives students the chance to enhance learning in experiential activities on campus at Georgia Tech during the summer.

VBS in Atlanta for Elementary Students

In addition to summer camps, several Atlanta-area churches offer Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs for elementary-aged kids. These church-based programs are open to the public and allow parents to drop kiddos off for an engaging Bible lesson and fun activities.

Please note: there are so many excellent churches in Atlanta, it is impossible to list them all! So, we are only including churches SitterTree partners with that offer free-to-the-public VBS programs this summer.

  • How to Prepare for a New Babysitter

How to Prepare for a New Babysitter

Wondering how to prepare for a new babysitter? You’ve come to the right place.

Whether it is your first time leaving your kids or something you’ve done a hundred times, it can feel overwhelming to welcome a new babysitter into your home and your children’s lives.

It feels hard, but it doesn’t have to be.

Knowing how to prepare for a new babysitter will make it so much easier to leave your children home with someone new.

The secret is giving your new babysitter all the information needed upfront. The key here is the word “all.”

Don’t make the mistake of assuming your new babysitter will simply know what to do or what not to do.

No two families are alike. For example, assume your sitter may babysit for another family with very different needs. If your sitter is good, s/he is probably in high demand with a number of different families with varying needs and preferences.

For example, you may have strict rules about screen time, while another family may feel comfortable letting their kids play video games the whole time they are out.

How to prepare for a new babysitter comes down to leaving plenty of details about your home and your children, as well as discussing what is expected with the sitter before you leave the house.

When you’re ready to book a new sitter, post your first job free using code TREEHOUSE1FREE.

    Preparing the Babysitter Info Sheet

How to prepare for a new babysitter starts with the basics. Use the SitterTree Babysitter Info to fill out the following information.

    • Contact Information
    • Important Phone Numbers
    • Allergies and Medications
    • House Rules
    • Bedtime Routine
    • Mealtime Do’s and Don’ts
    • Wi-Fi Info

You may want to add additional information, such as where to find first aid and emergency supplies

Save this document on your computer so you can update it as needed.

It will always be ready when you have a new babysitter.

    Do a Walkthrough

Just like every family is different, every home is different. That’s why it is vital to do a quick walkthrough of your home with your new babysitter.

Point out all the rooms and bathrooms, as well as which rooms are off-limits. Show your sitter the pantry and what snacks are available to the kids (and the sitter).

Make sure your sitter knows where the fire extinguisher and other emergency items, such as flashlights, are located.

And don’t forget to make sure your new babysitter knows where to find the first aid supplies.

Discuss Relevant Details for Today’s Child Care Needs

Before each new outing, make sure you provide your babysitter with the relevant details, including:

    • Where you are going,
    • When to expect you home, and
    • How to reach you if needed.

Keep in mind, your sitter may have plans after your job. Ask your sitter if s/he has a hard stop at the scheduled end time. This will make your sitter feel respected – and eliminate unnecessary frustration for everyone.

It is also wise to tell your sitter your communication expectations, such as “Please send me a chat me when the kids are in bed” or “I will be at a theater show and won’t be able to take calls until intermission.”

    Go Over Sitter Rules

In addition to providing your new babysitter with the rules of your home, you also need to cover the rules you have for your sitter.

    Sitter rules may include:

    • No friends over while watching your children.
    • No sleeping on the job.
    • No taking/posting pictures of your kids on social media.
    • No leaving the kids unattended.
    • No talking on the phone, going online, or watching TV until the kids are in bed.

The goal is to set clear expectations.

    Babysitters and Clean Up

It’s important to have realistic expectations for clean up.

You don’t want to come home to a house that is a much bigger mess than when you left it, but you also shouldn’t expect to come home to a house that looks like it has been professionally cleaned.

SitterTree sitters are responsible for cleaning up after all activities with your child(ren). However, they are not responsible for additional house-cleaning unrelated to activities they do with your children.

With that being said, it is wise to provide a bit of instruction, such as whether you want dishes placed in the sink or the dishwasher.

Why Preparing a New Babysitter is Essential

It can be easy to think your new babysitter provider doesn’t need all this information, but you’d be wrong.

It is always better to provide too much information than too little!

You don’t want your date interrupted by your sitter calling to ask you the types of things you could have already covered.

If you spend time today learning how to prepare for a new babysitter, you don’t have to scramble to put things together if your usual sitter can’t make it and you have to book someone last minute.

Most importantly, as much as we’d like to believe there will never be an emergency, there may be. You’ll feel much better knowing your sitter knows what to do in an emergency.

Get started preparing with the SitterTree Babysitter Info. Fill out this form once and save it for future updates as needed.

Feel Confident Booking a New Babysitter Through SitterTree

The first step on how to prepare for a new babysitter is to start by finding a babysitter via SitterTree.

When you hire a babysitter or child care professional through SitterTree, you can rest assured that your child(ren) will be in safe, professional hands.

There’s a reason why SitterTree babysitters have earned 98% 5-star ratings after nearly 70,000 jobs. You can trust ratings from other moms.

SitterTree requires all sitters to complete rigorous safety checks before even viewing available jobs. All sitters must clear a profile reviews, virtual sitter verification, and extensive background checks, including nationwide criminal, sex offender, and motor vehicle checks. Some sitters also opt to earn badges for advanced verification; such as, COVID Vaccination, CPR Certification, and Fingerprinting.

These aren’t run-of-the-mill sitters – these are top-of-the-line quality child care professionals.

  • Enjoy the Perfect Valentine’s Day Courtesy of Atlanta Babysitting Service

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to take advantage of an Atlanta babysitting service.

Date nights require babysitters, and trustworthy, child-loving, responsible sitters aren’t always easy to come by.

At least they weren’t before SitterTree came on the scene!

SitterTree, a leading Atlanta babysitting service, makes it easy to find exceptional childcare – even for the busiest date nights of the year!

Here are some ideas for how to make this Valentine’s Day extra special with the help of SitterTree.

    Celebrate the Weekend Before

In 2022, Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday, which means you have the entire weekend before to go on a date with your Valentine.

This is especially easy for those living in or near Atlanta because there are endless romantic options in the city.

Here are just a few of the examples of happening in Atlanta Valentine’s Day weekend:

If one of these special holiday-themed dates doesn’t work for you, you can always take advantage of the many restaurants offering Valentine’s Day pre-fixe menus all weekend long.

Make Plans Now for Valentine’s Day

Did you know Valentine’s Day is the most popular holiday to book a babysitter? It’s true!

According to DoorDash, “Compared to an average day, reservation requests climb by 500% on February 14, making it the second busiest day of the year for restaurants (just behind Mother’s Day).”

That means if you are traditional and want to celebrate on February 14th, book a sitter sooner rather than later.

Not only will you be competing against other parents trying to find childcare for this super busy night, but your go-to sitter may have Valentine’s Day plans herself.

Skip the Date and Give Mom Some Alone Time

While date nights are the traditional go-to for Valentine’s Day, they may not be the right choice for you.

For example, Zulily polled moms to see what they wanted for Valentine’s Day. They found “Over half (55%) of moms surveyed admit they’ve spent far too much time with their partner [due to the pandemic] and are looking for a little bit of a break and time for themselves. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the gift of “me-time” tops the charts of what moms want this Feb. 14.”

Instead of going the traditional dining out route, consider using an Atlanta babysitting service, so your spouse can enjoy some time away from all the people she loves (and needs a break from).

    RSVP for Galentine’s Day

Galentine’s Day is a holiday to celebrate the love of girlfriends traditionally celebrated on February 13th.

Galentine’s Day is a great time to book a sitter so moms can get together with their gal pals – especially moms without romantic partners.

Celebrate Leslie Knope (Parks and Rec character who originated the holiday) style at brunch with all the ladies you love.

Why You Should Use SitterTree: A Premiere Atlanta Babysitting Service This Valentine’s Day

SitterTree is an Atlanta babysitting service app that makes it easy for you to find and book safe, quality childcare.

SitterTree finds and screens sitters, unlike other Atlanta childcare sites, so you don’t have to!

This screening includes rigorous background checks and virtual verification. Our sitters have earned over 98% 5-star ratings after more than 60,000 jobs!

Now that you know our sitters are exceptional, here’s how it works:

    • You post a Valentine’s Day date and set your own hourly rate.
